Carbon in catalysis

We are interested in the role carbon plays in catalysis, e.g. through catalyst deactivation or catalyst activation ('active coke' deposits). Additionally, low-cost biomass feedstocks are a promising sustainable source to produce carbons with high surface areas and controllable surface properties. The carbons can be used to either produce carbonaceous catalysts or as a support for metal nanoparticles in various catalytic reactions and technologies.
